Fuck S.V.E.R. Raven Rules

That's the spirit!

Yesterday playing Sabotage Raven actually managed by some miracle to take A & B, they had a full 10 minutes to take C and couldn't do it. Awesome sight though, every SVER guy in the game just sat back blowing the parachutes out of the sky. When you shoot them dead out of the sky the bodies often don't fall, so we had a platform of dead Raven carcasses suspended in mid-air. Laughing The few that did managed to land usually landed wounded and were massacred promptly.

Speaking of parachuting, the other day I spawned after an airdrop with no parachute. Confused WTF? Obviously the fall ended badly.

I wonder why people went with the factions they did? I came into the game knowing jack, I just watched the intro videos for each group and SVER won easily by being Asia/Eastern Europe based and having a very Mad Max attitude and look. They were also presented as underdogs and I love fighting for the underdog.

SVER also appealed to me the muscle heads didn't and the other looked like borgs , i wonder if you have to finish a career before you can choose another faction which would be a stupid design choice IMHO

So I ended up doing some Googling, checking some other sites, and got the lowdown, and it's not good news. Crying or Very sad

You can only have 1 character per PSN account, this is apparently to encourage "loyalty" to a faction. Take that trophy whores! Razz

You CAN however change factions at any point, but doing so resets your character to level 1 and you have to start from scratch.

One thing I did read that was interesting is that the game has entirely different soundtracks depending on which faction you choose. SVER's metal is SVER only apparently, Raven and Valor have entirely different people doing their music. That's a small spark of coolness that doesn't come close to offsetting the lameness of the character restrictions. Evil or Very Mad

Do you think they will patch this?
Seems like a pretty dumb restriction... what about balance issues?

It seems there are more people playing SVER than other factions - does that make it harder for SVER to find a game, or mean they have more numbers in game compared to the other factions? Sounds like with a restriction like that that one of these two problems would arise...

I hope they come to their senses and patch it. What if after going through Raven and Valor I decide I want to go back to SVER? I have to start as rank 1 again? Fuck that. Sad

At the moment all the factions seem pretty balanced, at any time you can see how many people from each faction are on and the numbers are always pretty close. In my experience Valor usually has slightly larger numbers while Raven has less. SVER is usually in the middle.

It's never hard to find a game but the game just came out, give it a few months and we'll see what happens. It does definitely impact who you fight though. I've easily fought Valor 2 or 3 times as much as Raven. I guess it's good news for Raven in that they would never be struggling for a match, I wonder if any Valor people here can shed some light on their situation? Maybe it's tougher for them to find a game?

Damn that's is stupid, it would have been better if you just could have made 3 profiles, and when some faction amount is low that the a pop up would ask you to play another faction for a while, i consider this shoddy programming

I just heard from the Joystick podcast that when you reach level 60 or higher you gain other character slots so you can have one character for each faction, but that is just what I have heard today while driving to work.

Is this game really worth getting? And if so do we have a noobtoob faction? and what are most people playing as (SVER, Valor or Raven)?

The encouraging lyalty thing works though. I for one am SVER. And I love em, I genuinely have distain and dislike for the other factions...I even screamed "FUCK YOU VALOR PUSSIES" when I was the last man in my squad defending an area..I went down guns blazing, it was awesome... So although it is incredibly restrictive, it does do what they want it to, at least in my case. For th trohphy whores out there, once you get ya prestigey thing after level 60, you can re choose PMC, either way, on your second playthrough, you have a 10% XP bonus to EVERYTHING you do, and it stacks, so if you prestige twice, that's 20% and so on
And I REALLY love this game, it does things other games don't. It also has very good co-op team play, when you have a decent set of guys.

I don't know if it's an extra slot or just the ability to change factions. If what Luke says is true I actually don't mind that. If the exp multipliers increase every playthrough you'd be levelling up like a madman by your 3rd or 4th playthrough. I wouldn't mind it so much in that case. But slogging through like now would suck.

Sadly the NTA hasn't embraced MAG, so there's not many NoobToobers playing, SVER has an NTA clan but so far there's only 2 members (epke, me). If I change factions later I will make a new clan providing there's enough interest. For my money this game was totally worth it, it's the best online game I've played since Left 4 Dead. It's not perfect, but it does a lot of new things and there're experiences here that you simply cannot have in any other shooter out there. Not many shooters can claim to be truly unique; MAG can. This is the first shooter I've ever played that actually feels like a war, like you're really involved in something huge and everyone has a part to play. Even if you suck at shooters you can enjoy MAG playing a support role (equip a medical injector and a repair kit and you will rake in exp just keeping your teammates in the fight, and they will love you for it). In my opinion, it's a buy. I'm addicted.

Posts here have encouraged me to purchase but I'm reluctant to shell out the launch price for a game I cannot commit the necessary hours to. If the online community is still around by the time I clear my backlog I’ll think about picking up for sure.

For those of you currently playing, do you think this title will have longevity?
