It's Official, GOP Loses Its Damn Mind
  • This is the 2nd time in my life a presidential nominee has won more votes and lost the electoral college. Combine that with a congressional election in which Dems won more votes but lost the majority, and that's 3 elections in 16 years electoral + current district layouts have rewarded the less popular party.

In those same 16 years, the Dems have yet to enjoy even 1 example in their favour.
  • Normally people would cast blame on the third party voter, but I don't think that argument is applicable this time around. The states Clinton needed to win were substantial losses. He won over 50% in states such as Ohio, North Carolina, and Georgia. Even if the third party voters picked Hillary, he would have most likely taken those states.
  • If i only had taken the blue pill, ignorance is bliss!
    These are exiting times!
  • How anyone can't see that this man is motivated purely by self-interest is really beyond me. Sorry US, but you dropped the ball on this one. Big time. It is very entertaining and all, but it's the fucking presidency...
  • Trump is doing a good enough job so far, but people are still criticizing him just because it's Trump.
  • Well, one week in and beyond the insecure crowd measuring, refugee banning, and laying the groundwork for getting rid of twenty to thirty million Americans health insurance; Trump has removed the Joint Chiefs and the Director of National Intelligence from the security council. Oh yeah, and the highest tier of the State Department just quit. So we removed almost all expertise and experience in foreign policy, and Mike Flynn looks like a guy who wants war with Iran. What could possibly go wrong?
  • World war 3 is closer than you think, maybe Nostradamus was right :O
  • WW3 is already here. It started quite some time ago. Trump is completely irrelevant in the equation.
  • I guess you definition of WW3 is different than the rest of the world? Only a few countries are embroiled in separate conflicts/war
  • Bullshit Epke. The list of countries either directly participating in and/or funding wars is quite long. Not to mention currency wars which most don't even begin to understand, and which throughout history have always ended in troops crossing borders. You're vision of WW3 is Fallout. Simplistic and lowbrow. If the missiles fly, that's the END, not the beginning, of WW3.

    The USA is at war.
The Middle East is at war.
    The EU is at war.
China and Russia are at war.
    Korea is at war.
    Japan is at war.
    Australia is at war.
South Americans are fighting themselves for the last rolls of toilet paper.
    Africa is a fucking mess.

Just because the bombs aren't dropping at your doorstep doesn't mean shit isn't happening.
  • By your definition, we are not in WW3, we simply have always been at war.
  • It is still not a world war, if it was most of the world would be affected and it isn't, the major powers are still not at each other throats yet, mostly "normal" imperialism. I still don't have to buy war bonds, i am not doing my part yet, so do you need to know more?
  • We just continue to normalize crazy. No proof for three million illegal voters. No proof Obama wire tapped Trump Tower. Does not seem to matter much. Thirty to forty percent of the country seems willing to entertain whatever comes out of Trumps mouth.
  • We are in the Orwellian present now. There are adults reading this thread who live in countries that have bombed other countries during every year that they've been alive. The war doesn't end, because it's designed not to. 'Fake news' is the new 'doublethink'

Also, if (when?) the nukes fly, it'll be the end. Every time a nuke lands in a hemisphere, the entire hemisphere is effected: winds, tidal forces etc etc.

  • Poor whites on disability continue to support Trump after he has put in a budget that would have them go hungry. People say Seth Rich and pizzagate, like there is a shred of evidence for them, yet ignore the mounting evidence that their candidate was aided by the Russians. The only positive seems to be the GOP cannot get it together. All three branches under their control and zero significant legislation.

  • Yah know, I expected the corruption, but the sheer stupid of this administration is mind boogling. You document clear collusion with a foreign adversary via email! And folks still defend this behavior. Beyond the damage Trump has done to American institutions, this is making it clear that a significant percentage of Americans do not understand law, as a concept. They think there is one set of rules for people you like, and an entire other set for people you do not like.
  • The final sentence sums up a good chunk of American history. To this day even.
  • Obviously, it is hard to keep up with Trump's circus.  Seemingly every day brings new bad news for the current administration.  I would say embarrassment for them, but shame does not seem to be an emotion that Trump can feel, or tolerate in underlings.  Begging the President of Mexico to stop publicly stating that Mexico is never paying for the wall stands out.  The leaking is insane. I suppose it makes sense in this culture.  Trump likes his underlings to fight, and gossip and leaking are big weapons in the unstable court of a child king.  It is weird, like super Kafka weird, that this is starting to feel normal.  That having the most powerful man in the world look like the abandoned love child of Nixon and a WWE heel is just how the world works now.  He looks like a lame duck, but they could repeal Obamacare in a week, or nuke North Korea in a minute, so it is hard to feel safe
  • @westsw The leaks are a little absurd, you have gotta have some serious clearance to be able to leak a transcript of a private combination between two presidents. This is getting ridiculous, at the very least it sets an awful precedent for the Whitehouse.

This North Korea situation is bat-shit crazy. Everyone mostly joked about 'Nuclear War by tweet' , it's getting frighteningly close.. The comment yesterday fucked the country into an awful corner. 'If North Korea threaten the US again we will respond with fire and fury' (or whatever it was) . .......... Just the irresponsibility of it all, does not seem to care about any of it, or take enough time to at least craft an answer. When you are about to make a comment that you know could cause a Nuclear War and murder millions of civilians, you cannot even spend the time to craft a single sentence? Fuck off.

He gives less of a shit about the NK crisis than a Cable News Anchors saying mean words about him. Basically whatever effects my ego the most : matters the most. That is not putting country first by any ludicrous stretch. Anyway fuck policy, were the ratings good for the press conference???

I feel sorry for Matthis' and Mcmasters of the world. Imagine how difficult it is to be a top adviser to this POTUS, knowing the administration is a total mess but feeling that out of duty to country you cannot abandon post and help torpedo your own government by extension country. Ouch.
  • Yeah, having the most impulsive and child like President in living memory is terrifying.

Beyond the leaking, there are also other signs that the US government is functioning in ways I have not seen before. Some of Trumps statements are just being ignored. The trans ban tweet has not turned into any policy, it is being ignored. Trump said the new Ford class should go back to steam based aircraft launching, and the Navy straight up ignored it and installed the magnetic system. The US military ignoring the commander in chief is strange. It makes you wonder if Trump ordered nukes on North Korea, would a bunch of the E ring of the Pentagon just quit in protest?

The most cynical part of my mind thinks Trump is trying to goad North Korea into striking first, so that he can be at war and improve his poll numbers.
  • The 'Trans Ban' was apparently an (albeit heinously careless) distraction technique to attempt to cover over the fact that they expected the 'Paul Manafort FBI House Raid' story to be breaking :0 . It's gross abuse power to even think about trying to enact Federal policy, that can have a massive impact on people's lives, just to hide an incriminating story about your own campaign.

@westsw I hope that internally the defence department have already prepared for an irrational nuke order from up top and how to proceed. But yeah, I really don't know if they can do much other than them all resigning, until just a janitor or so is remaining that will willingly carry out the order to nuke Canada or whatever it is.

@westsw I would absolutely defend that that is not a cynical perspective at all :P . Sometimes the thought processes are that blatant! I don't think morally he would have a problem with that approach at all. But the more days of news that pass, the less cynical that idea appears and before we know it that could be the reality. Shit

  • Every single President ever has been human garbage. Trump is something far worst and far more repulsive. It's like an Alan Moore President come to life.
