NooBTooB's First PS3
  • You guys have been clamoring for us to get a PS3 for months, ever since it was released back in November.

Well I'm proud to say that NooBTooB is now the proud owner of a 60GB PS3! I'll try and post some pics later, but we broke the news in episode 52 (and also recorded a skit about it). Tobin will be waiting a few more months before he gets his, but you'll finally have PS3 games covered in our "games we've been playing" segment.

I didn't actually get any games with mine, as the place I went to didn't seem to carry Ninja Gaiden. I'll definitely be renting Motorstorm and Resistance sometime this week. I just bought Super Stardust HD and may also pick up Calling All Cars..

Got a pretty nice deal at Fry's Electronics. $499 for the 60GB PS3, but also came with a free copy of Casino Royale and Hellboy BD's (in addition to the 5 more BD's I get in the mail).

  • Sweet. PSN ID?

    BOO.

Does that game have voice chat? Because it hardly seems worth it.

    No ridge racer? =(

I'm up for motorstorm if you guys are up for it. I'll have to plop down $87 though because you can't rent games from anywhere here. A noobtoob motorstorm match would be pretty cool. All I need is a yes to push me over and go buy it.
  • :D planning on getting mine before Xmas depending if the price changes over here :S its hard to find non-bundled PS3s in the UK, cheapest I have found was £424.99 from play.com for a 60gb PS3, Resistance, Motorstorm, Genji, SixAxis, and Click on BlueRay. Thats about $850 :S and considering I don't want half of the stuff that comes with it, it just aint worth it atm :S ... sucks becuase if it went to $499 over here (£250) then I would deffinately get one...that is only £70 more than the Wii.

Yet another example of UK getting screwed :*(

Anyway, thats my rant over :), nice one getting your PS3...look forward to hearing your reviews, they will come in handy for helping me decide when to get mine :D
  • awesome :) Will be good to see what you guys think of Sonys offerings from now on.

Stealth, I've seen a few on ebay that have been cheap, lowest was £300 plus £10 P&P buy it now for the PAL 60gb. On shopto.net they have a £400 deal with motorstorm and Resistances

dude the uk is not getting a price drop this year and we got a bundle for the same price as teh console used to be, thats what deal we got when the US got their price drop. [/quote]
  • Superstar Dust is the best game I've played in awhile on any system, simple... effective and fucking addicting, as I type this my fiance is working on beating the second planet for her first time.

I've beat all planets and racked up 82 million in Arcade mode and ... I have a top 100 score for the last planet.

My PSN ID is Flawless1984... haven't added it to the wiki yet, everyone can send me invites but don't expect a good gamer especially in FPS games, I suck. And no voice chat yet either.

Glad to see you on board Yuzo, Ninja Gaiden is badass but damn hard and Rainbow Six: Vegas is a sweet rental ... and maybe buy if you like online tactical games.
  • Just bought calling all cars. Its a _great_ multiplayer game.

There are tense, tense moments where you're about to score and bang, intercept! "You fucking bitch! ARGH."

Its a fantastic game that I'd definitely recommend.

I'd compare it to something like fifa or some sports game.
  • sweet WP yuzo, i do not have 1 as of yet, but i reckon ill buy 1 nxt yr at some point (hopefully)
  • bout fucking time! this has made my day so far. get Resistance for the multiplayer, Ninja for gameplay and make sure to grab the HS demo
  • Damn, that's right.... I still need to add all these people I've been talking to IDs.
  • Woohoo. Now I can finally get some help with ps3 games to buy. So far, I've got Spider-Man 3, Resistance, Motorstorm, and Ninja Gaiden.

Heh, doesn't look like you need too much help (except for maybe Spiderman 3).. you picked the main titles I will be picking up/renting. :)

I played some Super Stardust last night.. It's definitely not on the same level as Geometry Wars for me, but is still a lot of fun. I'm still trying to get the hang of the various weapons and when to switch, but it really is a nice looking game.

Hopefully should pick up a copy of NG today, and maybe give Calling All Cars a try later.

Surprisingly enough, I spent the most time playing Go Sudoku!. The demo (or starter pack) has quite a few puzzles and the interface is really well done. It's a straight port of the PSP version which I also love. Will definitely be buying the add ons and want to try out the multiplayer at some point.

    Yw
  • Nice nice nice. . . u need 2 get some calling all carz soo i can own u yo lol
  • I can tell you now, at first I was disappointed with Superstar Dust HD. Once I found out when to dash, when to bomb and got the weapon switching down I found a whole new level of addiction with the game. Not a day has gone by where I haven't spent at least 40 minuets trying to beat my own scores and break a certain rank on each planet. Even my fiance is addicted like crazy to it... I woke up this morning and took the dog out, and when I got back in she was already going to town trying to beat her best score... (This is about 6:45am, lol)

Give it time for sure, the more you learn the better the game is... and the FUN aggravation can begin.

And good to know about the Sudoku ... I know she loves it, might give it a crack to see if she gets hooked on that too. And rent Rainbow Six: Vegas if it is at all your cup of tea... really smart game with mediocre story and horrible ending, but it's a damn blast the first time through. (I'm working on beating it on realistic after Ninja Gaiden goes back to the rental store) And apparently the online is good on it too, although I suck at FPS and haven't played it... the minute I got into a lobby and heard the barrage of swearing and racial slurs it really helped push me over the urge of wanting to play it online.
  • Definetely send me an invite, Yuzo. It's in the wiki, but I'll say it here just in case, TheRealSoren.

I've got Resistance (Good), The Darkness (Okay, never played multiplayer), and Untold Legends (Meh...). I would pick up Motorstorm and Ninja Gaiden, but I'm probably just gonna wait for Ratchet & Clank, Heavenly Sword, Lair, and Warhawk.
  • Good news,Yuzo added me earlier. Should be good to hear what you think of the PS3, and it's a shame they didn't stock Ninja Gaiden Sigma, it's a game definitely worth having, especially if your into hardcore games.
  • now that you got a ps3 lets all get one for me.thank you ppl. only jkin!
motorstorm is ok but just wait till the good games start coming out that use the ps3's true potential
  • Good job yuzo on getting a ps3!
I have to say that there may be a lack of games now (really only resistance, NG, Motorstorm) but in the next few months some really awesome games are going to be hitting the shelves. One that I think all of the ps3 noobtoobers should get is Warhawk. It looks insanely fun and it is just a straight online game so we can get maybe a noobtoob clan going in the game. It comes out in August in stores and on the Playstation Network for download. But if you buy the version in stores they bundle a Bluetooth headset with the game for the same price as any other nextgen game, which is an awesome deal considering that a bluetooth headset is around $40-50.

Yeah, I'm sure Warhawk is going to be my next big purchase after Ninja Gaiden. The bluetooth headset is a great addition but that just means I won't be able to talk with anyone on PSN until I buy warhawk :).

Lair really doesn't interest me but if the demo looks promising (if they release one), then I'll probably try and rent it. I'm debating right now whether to renew my gamefly account so I can play motorstorm and resistance..

Just use a normal usb headset?
  • wow :o

I never expected you to get the PS3 this early on Yuzo , tough the BR package you got is fricking sweet .
Casino Royale on 1080P for the win !

If you still cant get ahold of Ninja Gaiden try the demo up on PSN .
You could check out Virtua Fighter 5 - but that isn`t my cup of tea at all .
I dont like the pacing and execution , I`d rather have DOA if i have to go 3D fighting .

Upcoming interesting games are definitly Warhawk , Heavenly Sword ( I like to get my god of war on ) maybe lair wich
i still dont know about as the gameplay doesnt look that good ,all of wich coming out either end of august or first week of September
And finally offcourse - Ratchet :-)

OH ! Did you try flow yet ?
  • Wasn't there a voice-mail from an earlier episode that the caller said that he'll donate his PS3 to you guys? What became of that?

Also, what do you do with 60 Gigabytes on the PS3. I never really understood that feature. Please explain what the 60 gigabytes would do for PS3 owners.

Your probably a 360 user I suppose . So here we go weighing it against the default 20 GB xbox 360 drive in general .
    ( 120 GB model isnt a standard )

    - Bigger storage means bigger pagefile , faster loading
Some PS3 games support "installation" to HD , where a game can load from two media at the same time
In retrospect a 360`s has 3 partitions on their 20 GB drive upon which one is pagefile to speed up loading .

    - Since PSN is a very open platform , alot of developers will be going the content bandwagon and modding bandwagon .
Especially now that EPIC is spearheading this ( And we all know how the rest of the games follow EPIC trends as seen on the PC historicly)
What that means in the direct future is that you will be able to download -ANY- PC mod , or total conversion for UT 3 that comes out for the PC , transfer it to your PS3 and use it .
Bigger storage is needed for this .

    - Sony features a song marketplace . Good storage for ya there .

    - Video marketplace .

    - Installation of different OS , or multiple OS if you like to for two different purposes

    A. Allowing the PS3 to serve better as a media center in a desktop enviorment to which you can play common files
    such as DIVX,XVID, H2.64 - etc .
With increased storage capacity - your PS3 can better serve in this function if you chose to install said alternate O.S
and have MP3`s / encoded movies "local"

    B. The use of the PS3 as a standard desktop station .
It`s good enough for browsing , office applications , Instant Messaging and more .
Think of it as a HTC in this way .
For people that love their HTC`s , and want to go next-gen HD ( Blu-ray ) the PS3 is a cost effective box to
do both a desktop AND a media center .

I am pretty into HTC`s recently , but a decked out HD configuration easily costs 900 euro`s minimum a bit more ify ou wanna put in actual Blu-ray .

Ah, I didn't know those just worked out of the box. I'll give it a try, thanks for the tip!

Yup, just gave the demo a try tonight. Controls are as solid as I remember, and man it looks amazing.

Haven't picked up flow yet.. I'm a little worried about paying for it -- how much is it again, $10? Not sure if the replay value is there..
