NoobToob Community Profile 1: Cilia!!
  • Hey guys, welcome to my new weekly (maybe) NoobToob feature called "NoobToob Community Profile". Every issue I'll interview a different member of the NoobToob community so that we can get to know our community a little better and see just how diverse NoobToob really is! First up is Cilia who graciously agreed to the interview!

    Demiveeman:
Alright, I'm here talking to Cilia, one of the newest mods on the forums and the resident
NoobToob Shoop specialist. How are you today?

    Cilia:
I'm still recovering after a cold, but I feel really great.

    Demiveeman:
I've been sick myself. I blame Global Warming. Well, it's known that you are one of the more shy members of the community, so I'm grateful that you decided to do this profile today to let the community know a little bit more about you.

    Demiveeman:
Let's begin with a question you probably get a lot.

    Demiveeman:
Your name. It is your actual first name, correct?

    Demiveeman:
Is it a family name, does it mean something...or was just it just a really cool name pulled out of thin air?

    Cilia:
No, I haven't gotten that question before, but yeah, it's my real name. One of them anyway. My mom likes really alternative stuff, and after she saw a numerologist she's changed my name 4-5 times. But Cilia is the name I still use.

    Demiveeman:
    Wow, that's really interesting.

    Demiveeman:
So you mentioned your family, you are one of the many international NoobToobers right?

    Cilia:
    Yeah, I live in Denmark.

    Demiveeman:
So how did you find NoobToob?

    Cilia:
I was feeling obsessed with the g-men from Psychonauts, and tried to find their quotes around the internet. One of the places I searched for them was on youtube and Noobtoob came up. I remember it pretty vividly; I was home ill for a whole week, watching episode after episode because it actually made me feel better.

    Demiveeman:
How late in the series did you begin? Were you one of the fabled ones that went back and re-watched the episodes?

    Cilia:
I came in somewhere in the mid-thirties, I think, and I watched them backwards untill 23.

    Demiveeman:
I won't lie, so did I So how did the NoobToob Shoop come along, when did you decide to take it on and why?

    Cilia:
It was something Nostros set up some months ago, and I just loved the idea right away. Sometimes I can sit through half an hour of photoshopping a weird picture, actually laughing out loud to myself (yes, I am crazy, I blame my upbringing). I began running it at its sixth week and I'm really happy that it's still going on. I love how a lot of the shoops reflects the main themes of an episode. Like we've had the "chainsaw on a stick"-week and "Endless Ocean"-week. It's a blast seeing everone's new shoops for each week, and I hope to keep the contest going for a long time.

    Demiveeman:
So you like dealing with photoshop yourself?

    Cilia:
Yeah, I love it. I'm not a pro or anything, but I enjoy spending time in Photoshop.

    Demiveeman:
So if you had to name one hobby that is your "main hobby", what would it be?
    Photoshop? Gaming?

    Cilia:
Hmm... I don't really have a main hobby. I'd like to say gaming, but I haven't really gamed a lot the past few years; it only started again after I found Noobtoob. It's probably either gonna be either photoshopping or writing. Can I say that my computer is my main hobby? Hehe.

    Demiveeman::
I would vouch for that .

    Demiveeman:
So you said you haven't gamed very much in the past few years, but what was the last game that you played?

    Cilia:
    The most recent game now?

    Demiveeman:
    Yes.

    Cilia:
I've been playing the Orange Box games and Starcraft with some Noobtoobers lately and it have been awesome.

    Demiveeman:
And since you mentioned it, I take it that Psychonauts is your favorite game from the past few years?

    Cilia::
Not really. It's up there, but Zelda OOT is probably my favourite since it was my first real gaming experience.

    Demiveeman:
Wow, you just made a lot of people feel old!

    Cilia:
    Haha. Sorry

    Demiveeman:
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

    Cilia:
I'd go to England. I'd love to live there some day.

    Demiveeman:
Really? What about it do you like?

    Cilia:
It's probably because I love the English language so much that I've begun to admire the country and its citizens. I don't really know, actually. For some reason I just believe it would be really great to live there.

    Demiveeman:
Awesome. I'm not sure I'd ever get used to driving on the left side of the road -_-'.

    Cilia:
Haha. Yeah, that'd be a big problem. I'll bring my bike.

    Demiveeman:
Lol. I'm going to ask you this question, but you don't to really answer if you don't want, but I'm going to answer everybody featured just to see what they say.

    Demiveeman:
Who's your favorite: Tobin or Yuzo?

    Cilia:
You know what? I've actually not voted yet in the thread that Sloth started because I feel bad over picking one of them. If you put a gun to my head, though, it's gonna be Yuzo... I'm sorry Tobin. But I do love them both, and when it comes to the podcast they're inseparable.

    Demiveeman:
Well Cilia, that's about it...That question was the big doozy and you actually picked one! :-) Thanks again for being a part of the first Community Profile and congrats again on the Modship.

Be sure to check next week for the next NoobToob Community Profile!
  • Oooooh very nice. I think this would be nice in a wiki part with profile names. Then again we do have the forum stats that has most of that info...in any case it's a nice idea and a good start as a demo for something that could growl slightly larger over time...lest I hope so.
  • I call copy-right infringement!

In other news Sloth feels betrayed by Cilia rejecting his request for an interview.
  • Great new feaure demi! It's always fun to get to know some of the long time 'toobers a little better.

    Yw
  • Very good idea, Demi, it can really tells us more about the person behind the username.

I would be willing to do one, once you are finished with other big names here.
  • Woot..that's quite awesome, some behind the scene's look at the noobtoob forums.. well not really but it's a start :)
  • Lol. Did I say all of that? I'll refrain from talking about the actual interview and go back into my hiding-cave.

But I think this is a great idea - copy-right infringement or not - it's a good way to introduce lesser known people of the NTA. I don't know why I was the first choice, but there's a lot of people I look forward to see interviewed.

Oh, and in case people are wondering: I picked Yuzo because I think his sensitivity is really cute :P

What? I never rejected it. I said yes, but we never really got around to do it because I'm too shy to talk over a mic :( I'm still up for it (if you guys haven't lost all patience with me) and I'm working on getting better at talking into a mic, I promise.

Meh...Quit being a hater....Simple fact is..people are much much open to reading a 5 minute interview in a forum topic than an hour and a half podcast in addition to NoobToob.

    :-P
  • Excellent feature demi, you asked some very good questions and I really enjoyed finding out some interesting stuff about Cilia.
  • I think his sensitivity is really cute

Yuzo will love you for that! LOL

    Haha. I know

Sorry, Yuzo, you are also very manly and cool.
  • Zelda FTW! Wasn't my first, but definetly my favorite!
  • Nice feature! I really like the interviews in the Comcast so this is a nice idea too.

I was trying to think of people to suggest for your next interview (that haven't already been featured on the Comcast) and the first person to come to mind is, well, you. You've made quite a splash with your contributions to the site. What do you think about a self-interview? Or is that too pretentious this early on in this feature's life?
  • It could be interesting for the interviewer to be the next interviewee (or vice-versa) and pick a partner for the feature and continue it like that. In any case, an interesting read.
  • Well as far as the Interviews, I didn't listen to the Comcast enough to realize that really did this, so I apologize for anything looking like "copying". I don't mean for that at all.

However, since this is text, I have an opportunity to open it up to people that either don't have voice connections/don't want to talk vocally. We will see.

Cool idea, Magenta...I wouldn't be totally against the interviewee picking the next person to get interview, I'd just be afraid that the interviews could stay within a certain clique. As far as changing the interviewER, In order to keep the series grouped together, I'd like to continue interviewing in the similar manner.

As far as a self-interview? I feel like I'm more than vocal about what I do and who I am....I have a vision of this series being kind of the undercover stuff. I know cilia is well known, however she had a history of being a bit shy :-P.

    Good feedback, we'll see.

Again, I apologize for any likeness to the Community Podcast. If a cease and desist order is called, I will not argue.
  • I doubt it'll be a problem. More community endeavour is always good, and this is a really cool feature. Definitely keep it up, demi.
  • This is gonna seem a real lame thing to pick up on and criticise, but I can't let it go because it just looks so wrong:

Throughout the interview, specifically at the beginning, you talk in small paragraphs but separate them with your name as a cue. It just looks dumb. I read what you say then go down to the next block assuming its the interviewee only to get confused because I am still reading from you. If your train of thought changes, still keep it within the same paragraph. It should read like a script.

Other than this I liked it and should be made a regular feature.
  • Yep, I noticed that and thought I might combine them...because it isn't hard at all. However, since this was an interview over an IM client, I decided to preserve it in its actual form. I will consider than next time!
  • Nothing wrong with a little artistic license. Maybe you should film yourself giving the interview and then cut to a girl in the dark with a dubbed voice. Just do the dub yourself, putting on a girlie voice. Haha, that would be so awesome.

That would be extremely creepy but funny
  • "Names have been changed and faces have been obscured to protect the innocent"-esque deal huh, Apoph? =P

Don't feel obliged to do this. All print publications edit for "(something I forget the name for, but means cut the crap like "uh" and "you know," etc.)" and many edit for "clarity" (which means they completely reword the interviewee's quotes to make them easier to understand).

Also, any of the other new mods who have not been interviewed on the Comcast (Hp? maybe others?) would be obvious choices for your next interviews. And James-Kond has been trying to get a regular thing going with his high score contests, and Nevets has been a current champion/organizer of the poker tourneys, so they would be good candidates for the next interview. Plus I'm sure there are several obvious candidates that I've missed, so please keep the interviews coming!
  • Nice addition Demi, don't let the hate get to you. Yeah there is an interview with the comcast, but as you said not everyone sits around to hear it. This is an excellent way for people to get to know other people that they actually haven't had a chance to mingle with yet.

For instance, I have yet to mingle with Exmas or HP, but I can say I have a feel for their personalities through the interviews I had heard.

    Oui.

    And lose the H.
  • Excellent interview Demi - great to get to know some of the Noobtoobers!
I am stoked to hear some more about the rest of the NTA.
  • This is a great new edition to the site, Demi. I'm looking forward to more interviews in the future. To learn more about our fellow Noobtoobers will bring the community closer.
