Noobtoob's Week in Gaming: 17/09/18
  • After a monster post last week, really very little to report this week...

A little (XB1) Forza 7, a little (XB1) Minecraft but that's just directionless noodling as I ponder what game to play next and whether to give Transformers Devastation another go (the fact I haven't felt the urge to go back to it after nearly a month probably answers that question).  Also not helped by me generally being fairly exhausted by the time the late-night gaming session rolls around. New schools for both kids, work, gigs with the band - real life keeps on keeping on, and there isn't much room to breathe in between.

I'll continue to live vicariously through the rest of you.  Anything exciting to report?

  • Overwatch - Finally got the Moira trophy. Now have to do Orisa, Doomfist, and Wrecking Ball. Wrecking Ball's at least seem possible. Orisa and Doomfist's are totally luck-based.

Monster Hunter - Hunting on the toilet.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider - Enjoying it so far. Haven't really done much. The story seems pretty typical TR-type stuff.

Spider-Man - Same as above really. Played a bit. Swinging around the city is fun. Combat is very Batman-esque. Fun, but I don't expect to have my socks blown off by it.
  • (PC / Xbox One) Forza Horizon 4 - Really liking this game so far. At the moment I am just driving around the UK in a Ford Escort RS Cosworth like it's 1992! When I was a kid growing up that car was a big deal. Seems like it's been ages since I played a racing game so I am relearning how to take turns properly.
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider - Almost platted. Just have to do the last part of the game on hard. I enjoyed it, but overall pretty forgettable. There's not much combat in this one compared to the previous 2 games, and unfortunately the puzzles/tombs weren't made any more exciting to compensate. In fact the puzzles/tombs were probably the easiest of the 3 games so far. The trophies for this game are glitchy as fuck btw.

Monster Hunter - Still hunting here and there on the Switch.

Overwatch - Still trophy hunting without much success.

Spider-Man - Did the first few missions and went around activating all the towers just to get it over and done with. Haven't touched it since.

Plants Vs Zombies - Garden Warfare 1 and 2 fun. I still kinda prefer the first game over the second.

The Surge DLC: The Good, The Bad, And The Augmented - I love The Surge. Platted the game, then bought it on the Bone to get 1000GS all over again. The first DLC in the theme park ripping on Disneyland was excellent, so I bought this DLC on both systems the second they became available. Buyers remorse is a hell of a thing. Holy shit is this a low effort turd of a DLC. It's 9 challenge arenas with a Western theme, and you can play each arena with modifiers turned on to alter the experience each time, and get new loot based on what modifiers you use. BUT, it sucks dick. The arenas are made up of 3 zones each, but these zones get recycled, a lot. The first 3 arenas you do will seem fresh, but after that it's a quick ride downhill as areas and enemies are recycled. The enemies get tougher of course, up to bullshit levels of unfair at around arena 8 or so, but nothing stops the repetitive borefest the game has become by that point. There are new weapons and armours to collect, but they are all pretty standard and you will likely have stuff in your inventory that's better anyway, so the grind is there, but it's pointless. The other problem is the arenas unlock depending on how far into the game you are. So if you are playing NG, you will have to get close to the end of the game to unlock all of them. If you are in NG+ all the arenas will be unlocked from the start, but you're on NG+, which means everything will be much more difficult anyway.

Really disappointed in this DLC. A Walk in the Park was so damn good, how did they think this crap was a worthy follow-up?

    That's about it.

  • Octopath Traveller (Switch)
I've finished the game after 80 hours. Now I'm just getting all my characters to 80 and moodling about.
It's a really nice and complete experience. Highly recommend and I think wistfully of the adventures and banter I've had. I'll definitely be buying the sequel!
  • Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer with good friends tonight.
Killing Floor 2 has a Halloween update I've yet to try out, going to do so this weekend
Getting back into a private server WoW community I've been a part of for 4 years to do a raid tomorrow.
Playing some late night Skyrim, also on the weekend
Rebuilding some Warhammer 40,000 models since a good friend of mine decided to get into the hobby.

Bought a Tamagachi game for the DS...probably won't play it too much, but my wife might.
Bought a Tamagachi device for my 5 year old boy, have no idea if he'll like it. It's more of an experiment. lol.
  • This year's Halloween event in Overwatch is pretty good. A lot of very cool skins to collect. The Torb rework is great. A lot more versatility now.
  • Forza Horizon 4
    Quantum Break
    FIFA 19
    WWE 2K19
  • Overwatch - Got all the Halloween skins on PS4, but many elude me on Xbox.

BLOPS4 - Amazon was selling it cheap. Activision are money-grubbing cunts, but Treyarch have done a pretty damn good job with this. I don't miss the campaign, which surprises me. The zombies maps are all great, and the objectives to get the special weapons are complicated as fuck. Multiplayer is still multiplayer, but I'm liking that it's no longer insta-kill. Even Blackout is fun. PUBG without the C-grade code, and vehicles! Worth a look if COD interests you at all.

Red Dead Redemption 2 - After a 60gb BLOPS4 install it was great to see almost a 100gb install for this game. Thanks Rockstar! The first PS4 game I've seen on 2 BluRays. It felt like being back on 360. As for the game, can't comment yet. I spent so long installing I started playing something else.
  • God of War (2018)

This game keeps getting better and better. I'm a little over half-way through (I think) and it just continues to open up more and more. One of the best things about this game is that there's an in world (narrative) reason for almost everything that you do. Why do the trials? Because training is important. You'll get stronger and earn rewards that will enhance your weapons and armor. Why do sidequests? Because they offer training and lessons for Atreus to gain experience and grow as a person.

    Such a well crafted game.
