  • [CENTER]image

Remember yesterday’s teaser? Well, it appears that it wasn’t either Prey 2 or Doom 4. Bethesda Softworks today announced a new title, Wolfenstein: The New Order, an action-adventure shooter slated for release in Q4 2013. The game is being developed by MachineGames, a studio comprised of seasoned developers known for creating compelling, critically-acclaimed story-driven games.

Wolfenstein has been widely credited for helping establish and popularise the first-person shooter genre, and Wolfenstein: The New Order is a reimagining of this franchise – offering players a gripping and dramatic experience. The official announcement trailer can be seen today at GameSpot.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is scheduled for release on X360, PS3, PC, and next generation consoles. Additional details about the game will be revealed in a series of exclusive feature stories with GameSpot beginning on Wednesday, May 8th.

Jens Matthies, creative director at MachineGames said:
“We are excited to bring a new chapter of Wolfenstein to gamers everywhere. As fans of the series, working on this game is an honor, and our team is driven to create an unforgettable action-adventure experience that will make FPS fans proud.”

So, what does everyone think about this? I haven't really invested any time into the Wolfenstein games but would love to hear what people think, etc.

  • So a game originally set in the '40s, but now set in what appears to be the future, advertised using a song from the '60s...?

I'm not going to get my knickers in a twist about a new version of an old game somehow retrospectively ruining the old one for me, but stuff like this always makes me laugh:

"Here's a list of all the stuff that was good about the old game. Now we're going to ignore all of that." BJ Blazkowicz is a genuine video game legend, so I can see why they would want to use him in a new game, but if it's that significant of a re-imagining, you'd have thought they might have been better going for a new IP. Also, wasn't the last game full of all kinds of mystical stuff? Think that'll make it into the new game?
  • I've never played any of the games, but I'll probably give this game a go. I'm usually a fan fan of what Bethesda ships out, although I might wait and snag it for whichever next-gen console I pick up.

Side note: Hendrix in the trailer? Solid. Starting off on a good note I see...

The originals had mystical stuff too, and the last boss was Mecha-Hitler so it's not like the originals were ever attempting to be historically accurate.

These were games I grew up playing, and to be honest I've been waiting for a good reincarnation ever since. I didn't like the last reboot attempt at all but I'd definitely give this a go. However, the devs apparently are a bunch of the same rejects that made the original Darkness so there's no way in Hell I'd buy it day 1.

Ehhh. I thought the Hendrix added to the smoothness of the character talking. I think Hendrix, at least in the case of this song, was a much better fit.
  • Never played a Wolfenstein game before, that I remember at-least. Might give this a go.

Why don't you guys who haven't played it just grab it off LIVE or PSN or Steam? It's so cheap and you can experience a bit of gaming history.

I wonder if you can put in the cheat codes in those versions? That was the most fun I had with the original, walking through walls to sneak up on inactive Nazi guards and gooseing 'em with my knife.

Howdy, Stranger!
