[hide=Quantic Dream Announces Beyond: Two Souls]Sony has gone live with the first look at Beyond: Two Souls, its newly announced PlayStation 3 interactive psychological action thriller from Quantic Dream, starring Oscar nominee Ellen Page (Inception, Juno) as Jodie Holmes.

Jodie was born a different person from others. She has supernatural powers through her psychic link to an envisible entity she calls Aiden. In Beyond, “you will experience the most striking moments of Jodie’s life as your actions and decisions determine her fate.” You will take control of Jodie and Aiden in “spectacular action and adventure scenes” as they traverse the globe and face “incredible challenges” in “emotionally charged events never before seen in a video game.”

The following video is a real-time video of the game running on PlayStation 3.

[hide=Wonderbook, Book of Spell's announced]Sony has announced Wonderbook during its E3 press conference tonight.

The PlayStation 3 application take books and brings them to life via the PlayStation Eye and Move peripherals.

Moonbot Studios is developing Diggs Nightcrawler for the platform. And Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is creating Book of Spells for Wonderbook.

Book of Spells makes the PlayStation Move the player’s wand. Reading the book, the player will learn a variety of spells, the same spells those who study at Hogwarts would learn. A demo of the “Fire-Making Spell” given on-stage saw a dragon fly out of the book and set it on fire, leaving the player to put it out, then wipe the dust off with his hands. Another demo showed a paper theater, which depicts the discovery (and history, essentially) of the spell, “Windguardian Leviosa.”

Book of Spells is due in November.[/hide]

[hide=God of War: Ascension release date/trailer] Sony has announced during its E3 press conference tonight that God of War: Ascension will launch for PlayStation 3 on March 12, 2013.
In the single-player demo we showed off some of our new gameplay mechanics and combat systems. We’ve evolved our combat system to be more immersive and powerful than ever with a new tether system allowing you to sling enemies around as a wrecking ball, while maintaining a blade attack at the same time, in the air and the ground. Our new world weapon system also allows Kratos to steal enemies’ weapons to use against them. Now you can now easily switch back and forth between the blades and sub-weapons mid combo.

Also, if you watched the demo closely, you’ll notice that we’ve replaced some of our QTE mini-game button prompts with a new prompt-less free-form system. While in the mini-game, you’ll need to focus when to attack or dodge based off of the enemies actions, instead of an indicated button prompt.

We also showcased our new Life Cycle mechanic. Kratos can use this new ability to control the flow of time on various objects in the environments to solve puzzles, and freeze enemies during combat. Watch the demo for a better illustration of this.

[hide=Playstation: All Stars Vita release, and new characters] Sony has confirmed a PlayStation Vita version of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale during its E3 press conference tonight, which will be cross-compatible with the already announced PlayStation 3 version.

The team at SuperBot Entertainment took the stage to demo the game, after which they confirmed two new characters, both who are playable on the E3 show floor tomorrow. They are Nathan Drake (Uncharted) and Big Daddy (BioShock).[/hide]

[hide=LittleBigPlanet Karting trailer]Sony and United Front have released new video and screenshots of LittleBigPlanet Karting at E3.

    Watch the trailer below.

[hide=Last Guardian to ship "When ready"]E3 kicked off this week, and when Sony’s press conference ended, The Last Guardian was nowhere to be seen. What’s the hold up? We’re not sure. But according to Sony senior vice president of product development Scott Rohde, the game is still in development and will be out “when it is absolutely ready.”

“I will not give you a detailed update, but I will say one thing. It goes back in my mind to innovation and to gamers and to quality,” Rhode told GameSpot. “That title is going to ship when it is absolutely ready.”

Sony does not have a business plan for The Last Guardian, allowing the team to take as much time as they need.

“And I think that’s a really important thing to remember; that it would be very easy to ship a game when it’s not quite ready because we need to meet a business plan,” he said. “Gamers are first. And the experience that we provide is first. And that’s why we’re going to talk about that game when we’re ready to talk about it.”

Best to hope for the Tokyo Game Show, then?[/hide]
  • Ok, I hadn't heard of The Last of Us until today. But apparently people have been talking and hyping it up a lot. I didn't know that's what the game was when it was getting shown/played. All I thought it was, was Uncharted 4. And considering they keep saying Naughty Dog are doing something different with this game and after it was shown they said it doesn't have an Uncharted feel... I think they're all full of shit. It looks, plays and feels like Uncharted tbh and it's even more Uncharted than uncharted is (looks more like a movie than game at times). Hell, the character even looked like Drake with a beard...

Anyone else feel the same or is it just me seeing things that aren't there?
  • CloudEnvy linked me this.

    So good.

    Spoiler:

  • I dont know how it could be more uncharted than uncharted but there will be similarities im sure.

It definitely has the basic outline of UC gameplay, but some huge differences: One its not nearly as action focused, seems like they really want to focus on gore and brutality, gives it a more dark feeling. Two, it seems like stealth is gonna be a much bigger element in Last of Us. Its really nothing like Uncharted other than the basic shooting stuff and basic parts of the stealth, which is in many other games. 3, it seems ammo will be much more scarce (I saw Joel had like 4 bullets while he had a couple more to kill, and he wasn't overusing it really.), whereas in Uncharted you rarely have any trouble with ammo and if you do theres like 30 loaded guns free to pick up.

Excluding everything not one of the 3 exclusive demos, Sony won E3. But Wonderbook was hilarious and an instant classic new meme
  • I seem to have missed the 'last of us' footage lol... I don't know how that happened I sat through the entire Sony conferance. Anyway the rest of the stuff was the highlight of the day for me! And I have nothing Sony (of this gen... nothing but a ps2... and maybe a discman if I clean out my closset) in my house so that says a lot. Basically I love all that Ubi showed and Sony, of the big 3, was most like it. Nin didn't even show and they run a close second. The Wii U looks like a fun little machine. Hope it doesn't cost like 400 bucks. And MS just laid a big ole egg. A few things there, but much of it just wreaked. Ubi had a little bit (Spinter Cell, none in EA I guess, everything in Ubi, AssCreed in Sony) in every conferance and it was the best part in each one!! The Wii-U stuff Ubi's doing (Rayman and Zombii) looks pretty sweet too.
  • Really need to invest in a Playstation just for The Last Of US, looks amazing.

there was a comment that said it looked like uncharted, however i dont find this true as the only similarities are in its cinematic style. Gameplay wise it seems to be more survival based with him being unarmed and ahving to get weapons with only 6 shots left and taking out like 10 ne'er do wells. Lot more stealth and i loved the last bit of the gameplay trailer where he tries to plead for his life after trying to kill you.

Character looks the same as drake but with a beard. Same engine is fine but looks like they borrowed a lot of the textures from uncharted. The only thing that seems different to me is that they added a health bar and that the cinematic are in combat and combat is more 'brutual' because of the things they do in those cinematic bits. People are saying it's more action based than exploration and that's how it differs from uncharted, well, uncharted gameplay in the past has also been all action based really. So kinda hard to tell that point right now imo.

Watched it a 2nd time, I still say it's uncharted with a health bar and upgraded combat.
  • When Joel was just exploring and moving about outside I was like, "Ok, this totally like Uncharted, losing a bit of my interest now." Because of the way he moved, mainly.

But then it went into the combat and I was totally compelled. It's a totally different approach to Uncharted. Uncharted has more of a blockbuster-y, never afraid feel to its combat, this feels a lot more minimal in style. Lack of ammo, lack of music, much more survival horror-y. So, I'm interested again. :)
  • I talked about Sony's E3 presentation for EGMNow and DigitalNoob:

Who said its MORE action based? It seems much more slow paced and focused on taking on enemies with more stealth in mind. Plus its a game about ant zombies, you also fight bandits. The real difference is that in Uncharted Drake blows through 20 enemies in a room like its nothing and has 90 bullets left. In The Last of Us, you seem to have less ammo and when you kill someone it seems to be like "Wow I just killed someone", it just feels more brutal and more like a struggle for the character.
  • To be honest, one of my biggest surprises from Sony came from the pre-E3 briefing. Some guys demoed Soundshapes, which was originally only coming to Vita, is now also coming to PS3 for €15/$15. Also, if you buy one version, you get the other.
  • sony won E3 to me, it wasn't as good as if could have been.. just sucked the least I guess. No mention of sly 4, or the new ratchet. oh and that clip of portal 2 in the intro montage has to be a hint of dlc, anyone know of any info on that.
  • Also, a new IP:

    Beyond: Two Souls.

Action doesn't just mean huge fights. Uncharted is centred around exploration more than action. This game, more centred around the action/combat. Action based = the base of the game, not just how big fights will be. To me, lack of ammo doesn't really change much for the feel. Doesn't matter what game it is, I'm careful with ammo. I don't think I've ever completely ran out of ammo in any game that isn't online FPS tbh.
  • Uncharted, exploration based? you go from a to b , kill a lot of dudes and in the story bits it explained that you explored something. Tomb raider is a explorer game, the last of us looks like a slow survival horror game.
