Question Building a simple site - I have not a clue what I'm supposed to do

Hi All, I've been tasked with building the website for my band, we have the domain name and the associated FTP storage. The singer was able to upload a template and put some place-holder text in there, but I don't even really know how to do that. I've tried downloading some free WYSIWYG HTML editors, but even those don't seem to allow me to actually design a page that looks how I want it. I think I have the downloading/uploading to FTP client sorted through MS Webmatrix...

Does your band's hosting not offer the option to install a content manager system on the server? Typically that's what you'd use to edit the content without affecting the template.

If you just have the raw HTML files, have you tried KompoZer? I downloaded it real quick and it looks like it would work as a free WYSIWYG editor.

If you already have an editor and just having issues making updates, I can try to help you with more details.

I don't think they provide that, although I could be wrong. I have finally managed to sort out transferring the updates from my home PC to the FTP server, it's just all the HTML editors I've tried are a bit janky (probably because I don't understand the way html sites are all based on tables - I think???). I'll give Kompozer a go and see how that works out.

It's not free or cheap but have you had a look at Microsoft Expression Web 4? I think there is a demo/trial version that might be worth checking out. It's somewhat easy to use (but then again this might be because I use a similar product to it everyday so it looks like products I already use).

Hard to say how your template is built, but typically sites don't use tables anymore for structure. Its usually divs with CSS applied, which might explain your issue. Grab me in chat sometime and I'd be happy to help.
