    Wacom Pen Issue

    Hey Noobtoob,

I have a Wacom Bamboo tablet that my friend gave me, which he told me the only problem with it is the pen tip doesn’t register when I put it on the tablet but the eraser part does.

The tablet model is MTE-450A and the pen looks like this

I was wondering if it is possible to take apart the pen or I’m going need a replacement. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good stuff, have you checked the Wacom official site for the latest drivers? Usually clears up most of the software problems. If not then you can always contact Wacom, I've had a few problems with my tablet before but unfortunately nothing that'll help you right now.

Yeah I have the latest drivers. I'm pretty sure its a hardware problem in the pen itself.
I'm not sure if the pen can be taken apart. I don't want to spend 30 dollars unless, it's absolutely necessary.

Hmm, okay. Well maybe I can help, I've had slightly similar problems.
First of all, which operating system are you using? Does your computer recongise that there is a device plugged in at all? Are the lights on your Bamboo on or off?

Do you have a pen nib in the pen? It looks like you don't.

This. I'm pretty sure I used to have the exact same tablet and the pen had a nib on it, more like a felt tip nib rather then a pen nib though.

My computer recognizes its and all the buttons work on the pad, the two buttons on the pen, and the eraser.

Yeah I have the nib. I took it off before taking the picture. I tried taking it out and putting it back but didn't work.

It might just be outright broken. I dropped mine a few too many times and killed it.

My pretty sure that is the problem. I want to know if it can be taken apart. I have read that it could be a coil inside the pen.

Yeaaaah, that sucks man. I'm always encountering software compatibilty and connection problems with my Wacom. To be honest, a software problem is much easier to deal with than anything to do with the hardware.

If you don't want to give Wacom a call or check out the forums, it's a bit of a crappy option, but you could always buy a new tablet? I just did a quick search on Amazon.com and found a Bamboo Pen & Touch for ~$70. Very reasonable price for a decent tablet, too.
